You’re Not Confused — You’re Disconnected

Sometimes the clarity you’re searching for isn’t found in doing more, but in hearing again.
I was talking to someone recently who had taken a few days away to spend time praying and seeking God.
As we chatted, what struck me wasn’t that they had returned with all the answers. Instead, they described the place they had chosen to stay.
“It was so quiet,” they said. “There was no hustle and bustle. No constant noise. I found myself sitting by the window, gazing into the distance and simply taking it all in.”
Then they said something that stayed with me:
“I felt so peaceful and refreshed.”
Not because every question had been answered.
Not because they had figured out their future.
Simply because they had stepped away from the noise.
That conversation got me thinking.
How many of us are carrying what we call confusion when what we’re really experiencing is disconnection?
We live in a world that rarely stops. There is always another opinion, another success story, another expectation, another reason to keep moving.
And somewhere in all that noise, it becomes easy to lose touch with ourselves.
I’ve Experienced This Too
A few years ago, I took a three-day spa break.
There was no agenda. No deadlines. No pressure to achieve anything.
I slept. I relaxed. I read. I prayed. I journalled.
As the days passed, I became increasingly relaxed. In fact, I remember feeling slightly unsettled by it. I had become so used to being productive, busy, and constantly doing that deep rest felt unfamiliar.
Then I realised something important.
Nothing was wrong.
This was exactly what I needed.
Away from the demands of everyday life, I found myself becoming present again.
Present with God.
Present with my thoughts.
Present with myself.
And with that came a level of clarity I hadn’t realised I was missing.
Since then, I’ve made it a priority to take intentional time out throughout the year. I call it self-care, but for me it’s about more than rest.
It’s about reconnection.
What If You’re Not Actually Confused?
As a coach, I often hear people say:
“I feel stuck.”
“I need clarity.”
“I don’t know what I want.”
On the surface, these sound like problems of direction.
But what if the real issue isn’t a lack of direction?
What if it’s a loss of connection?
Connection to who you are.
Connection to what matters to you.
Connection to the values, gifts, and purpose that make you uniquely you.
Connection to God’s voice.
When we lose that connection, we naturally begin looking elsewhere for answers. We compare ourselves to others. We start measuring our lives against someone else’s journey. We become distracted by who everyone else is becoming and lose sight of who we are becoming.
Before long, we feel confused.
But perhaps confusion is often the symptom, not the cause.
Pause & Reflect
When was the last time you intentionally created space to hear yourself think?
Not while scrolling.
Not while multitasking.
Not while trying to solve a problem.
Just space to be still.
What I’m Learning
One of the things I’m learning is that clarity rarely arrives through more activity.
It often arrives through more awareness.
I’ve come to believe that we don’t need to reinvent ourselves.
We need to reconnect with who God created us to be.
The world constantly tells us who we should become, what we should achieve, and how we should measure success.
But God isn’t asking us to become someone else.
He’s inviting us to align with who He created us to be.
Sometimes the noise around us isn’t just distracting us from God’s voice.
It’s distracting us from ourselves.
From our gifts.
From our purpose.
From the person God has already called us to be.
And perhaps that’s why slowing down matters so much.
Not because stopping is the goal.
But because clarity often begins when the noise ends.
A Small Step This Week
Create one hour of intentional quiet.
Take a walk. Sit in nature. Leave your phone behind if you can.
Don’t use the time to figure everything out.
Simply create space and notice what comes to the surface.
Reflection Question
What might become clearer if I stopped trying to find more answers and started creating more space to listen?
Faith Reflection
One of my favourite promises from Scripture is that God will guide us along the best path for our lives, advise us, and watch over us.
I find great comfort in that.
It reminds me that clarity is not something I have to force.
My responsibility is not to manufacture direction.
It is to remain connected.
Connected to God.
Connected to who He created me to be.
When we stay connected, His leading becomes easier to recognise amid all the competing voices.
Prayer
Lord, I pray for the person reading this today.
In the middle of life’s demands, distractions, and pressures, help them find moments of stillness. Quiet the voices of comparison, fear, urgency, and self-doubt.
Help them reconnect with who you created them to be.
Restore clarity where there has been confusion, peace where there has been anxiety, and confidence where there has been uncertainty.
May they know that they do not need to become someone else to fulfil their purpose. Help them trust that you are guiding them, even when they cannot yet see the full picture.
Amen.
Confidence Mantra
I do not need to become someone else. I am learning to reconnect with who God created me to be.
If you’re feeling stuck, uncertain, or disconnected from yourself and your purpose, coaching can provide the space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters.
Sometimes the breakthrough isn’t found in doing more.
It’s found in hearing more clearly.
You may not need more answers.
You may simply need the space to hear them.
You are born to shine.
