Ignite Your Identity: Seeing Yourself in the Right Light

Updated: Sep 7

This week, I learnt something that hit me deeply: it is so important to know who you are.

We live in a world where voices surround us — some uplifting, others draining. Sadly, there are people who only see the negative side of things. They project their insecurities, and if you’re not careful, their words can make you feel like you’re not good enough, not capable enough, or not worthy enough.

But here’s the truth: their words don’t define you. Their problem is not your problem.

The Power of Identity

When you don’t know your true identity, you’ll find yourself accepting labels and opinions that were never meant for you. Maybe someone once told you that you were “not smart enough,” “not capable enough,” or “too much of this and not enough of that.” Those words might sting, but they don’t have to stick.

When you ignite your identity, you begin to walk in the freedom of knowing that you are already enough. You are not reduced. You are worthy. You are full of great things. You may not be perfect — none of us are — but perfection isn’t the requirement for purpose.

Protecting Your Light

Ask yourself: in what ways have you allowed hurting people to hurt you? Often, those who belittle others are wrestling with their own pain. It’s never really about you. Their negativity is simply a mirror of their own struggle.

That’s why it’s vital to stay in a place of peace, reminding yourself, I can’t make everyone else okay, but I can make sure I’m okay.

Your worth isn’t up for debate. The fact that you’re here, alive and breathing, means you carry value. And no one’s harsh opinion can reduce the greatness already within you.

Choosing the Right Light

The next time you’re hit with belittling or difficult words, I encourage you to pause and ask:

  • Am I seeing myself through the lens of their words, or through the truth of who I am?

  • Am I allowing someone else’s brokenness to shape how I see myself?

When you choose to see yourself in the right light, you reclaim the power that was always yours. You step out of shame, comparison, and doubt, and step into confidence, resilience, and purpose.

And that’s what the Ignite Your Identity pillar of RISE is all about — helping you uncover and embrace who you really are so you can live and lead authentically.

Reflection

In what ways have you allowed the words of others to dim your identity? What one step can you take this week to reclaim your worth?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for creating me with purpose and worth. Help me to stand strong against negative words and opinions. Teach me to see myself as You see me — whole, valuable, and enough. Amen.

Confidence Mantra

“I am not reduced. I am worthy. I carry greatness within me.”

If this resonates with you and you’re ready to ignite your identity, strengthen your resilience, and build unshakable confidence, I invite you to connect with me at iarisenshine.com. Let’s walk this journey together.
